June

Created in part of my 2020 12-Month Series, comprised of twelve 60cm by 80cm oil paintings, June depicts a bush of peach roses from Vienna’s Volksgarten. I cannot resist stopping to smell the roses every time I pass Volksgarten in bloom. On this day in June 2019, I spent hours photographing and savouring all the incredible aromas until my skin turned red. From hundreds of photos, I selected one for my reference, reformed the composition, mixed my palette with meticulous accuracy and painted my reality of the memory.
