This print has travelled with me to three different provinces of Canada, yet always called me back to Ontario and back to Algonquin.
I love the ardour of the portage portrayed here; I can feel the cold morning mist through the colours and the brush strokes as if it really were just the exertion of paddling keeping me warm. It brings me back to a cold, misty morning I experienced on my own Algonquin trip in which we tore down camp before sunrise and hit our first portage before the sun could clear the morning fog.
Thank you, Brooke, for capturing on canvas the moment that I wish all Canadians could experience. Paddle more. Get out more.
